Does anybody know how Charlotte-area golf courses fared during the storm? Any damage that could disrupt or prevent play this weekend?

Stonebridge Golf Club Date: 5/21/18 Mon Afternoon
Overall Rating: Great course

I've played Stonebridge 5 or 6 times in the last 30 days and it's been in really good shape each time. They mini-punched a couple weeks ago but the greens are pretty much back to normal - a little hairy as of yesterday but that's too be expected - they still roll true just have to put a little more speed on them. Prior to the punch they were rolling at least a 10 and true. Some of the "Gold" back tees are in need of some love but really only a couple are in need of repair. Exceptional golf course, exceptional staff, exceptional value. This and Carolina Lakes (At sun city) are my must plays right now.

I'd have to give this course a 5-star if it weren't for a few goofy pin placements and a few spotty tee boxes. The greens were tight and rolling true, the fairways were plush, sand is fine. Pace of play today was lightning quick which I guess is to be expected during the day on a weekday. The $13 tee time was through golf-now - actually it was $10 if not for the $3 golf now fee - couldn't believe it when I saw it. It was for a one-person tee time though, which makes a little sense. Either way, a complete steal for the money. I wish this course were a little closer to my house, I'd play it way more often. Right now is a good time to book a tee-time though, course is in phenomenal shape.

The guys out at Stonebridge continue to put out a great product. It's a real pleasure to play out there. Greens and fairways were 9 out of 10 and no problems with the bunkers. My only complaint has ever been that 18 seems so plain and uninspired. other than that I love the course.

Once the tee boxes come in the course will be pretty much perfect. Greens are a little hard too. Other than that if you can find a deal on golf now.com you'd be hard pressed to find a better course for the money.

12:10 tee time on golfnow.com - scored a $17 round for 3 guys. Nice! Greens look like they are having a hard time coming back from a recent punch - we didn't have the best time putting today. Fairways, although wet, are quite nice. Bunkers were shit. Overall a decent play - if I would have paid normal rates I would have been disappointed.

I felt like the previous reviewer was a bit unfair with his last review. He mentioned the practice area looking as though it was under construction and that the balls were scuffed, etc. Well...what gave it away - the giant bulldozer out there? They are improving the practice area, why would they have new balls right now with that being the case? The course, other than the sand traps, is in pristine condition. You cannot find a dead spot on any of the greens, the fairways are full, tee boxes all very good. The sand was a product of the torrential downpours we got last week which they are working on. I don't see how you could be disappointed at all with this track, it's in fantastic condition - unless you're playing out of the sand all day long.

Can't really say much of anything except they have this course running on all cylinders right now. Greens are in excellent shape and cut for a nice roll. Fairways are a tad thin but nothing bad. This is a nice play right now.

Heck of a play for $39 bucks right now. Fairways are still a tad thin but coming in nicely. Greens were rolling a little slower than normal but still very nice and rolling true. I'm happy to drive a little further to play this course, it's a nice little gem.

The course is coming in really nice. Punch marks on the green are still visible but the putts are rolling fine. The fairways are starting to come in nicely. Still a little thin but that's to be expected at least for the next week or so. Overall a really enjoyable round of golf. And for $29 after 2pm, can't beat it.

This is literally one of the nicest places to play in the entire Charlotte area. The course doesn't get a ton of wear and tear because not a lot of guys play here. Fantastic conditions right now - greens are some of the best around. Do yourself a favor and just take a ride and go enjoy this place. Excellent!

It's greening up very nice - the course is a real beauty right now. Greens are a little hairy, still rolling decent but I wouldn't necessarily say rolling smooth. Other than, no compaints at all. If you haven't played here, you should.

The greens are some of the best rolling greens out there. If it wasn't for the drive (about 40 minutes from South Charlotte), I would play this course all the time. For $39 bucks though you really can't beat it. We played at 9am and rolled through in about 4 hours, roughly. Fairways and boxes are all in great shape. Sand was fine as well. There's really nothing bad to say about the place other than the drive to get there. Andy's burgers afterwards is a must - I still claim they have the best Cheeseburger!

I have to say, I am big fan of this place. They should call it Carolina Sands though...bunkers EVERYWHERE! I've played out here twice now, once last thursday and again Saturday. We played a 2:10 tee off and played 18 with squinty eyes trying to see the ball but we made it through. Don't tee off after that time or you most certainly won't make 18. Anyhoo, the greens undulate like crazy and are fast - you have to get used to them quickly if you're going to post a decent score. There's not much in the way of issues with the course, everything is in fine shape. Distance markers are a little hard to find from time to time so a GPS or the like would be very helpful out here. I would put this course in the top 10 courses to play in/around Charlotte - definitely worth your time. Give it a shot.

The only gripe I have about Stonebridge is the pace of play. It always seems like we get stuck behind the slowest groups out here but it has to be the way the course is laid out. That par 3 - 3rd and then guys waiting to tee off on 4 until they hear the bell is just a disaster. It completely holds up traffic and I'm super lucky to ever get a 4 1/2 hr round out here. The course is in good shape for this time of yr. The greens are a little dented up but apparently that's because the last 400 people that played the course forgot their divot tools at home. Seriously people...repair your ball marks.

Springfield is right up there in my favorites column. The greens are rolling pretty nicely, fairways are thick. It was wet and cart path only when we played but overall not a bad day on the course. I think we ended up finishing in 4 1/2 hours so not too bad considering we had to walk to our balls. Thanks for the arm sleeve Chris Gore, that really helped me put together a nice round! Oh, and don't forget you still owe me money for the round, Puma's and steaks punk! hahaha

Even though I played like shart and the rest of my group played like shart, I can't take anything away from Red Bridge. Pace of play was as quick as we could go at 7:40am. We actually fell a little behind the 4-some in front of us and needed to speed up. Greens are so darn quick, I actually don't mind it because i would rather have fast and rolling true than medium speed and less than true roll. The greens are in such good shape it's remarkable what they've done with this course. And at $44 at the course or $39 on click it you really can't go wrong with playing this course. I would put this course on the "Hard" to "Very Hard" list and right up there with "Break a club, curse out loud, vow to give up golf" list as well. You have to be a shotmaker on this course or at least have very good course management skills. There are very few times the course will bail you out for hitting a bad shot. That said, it's still a fun course to play and if you appreciate how well they are keeping care of this course you will have a great day. After you play try that burger joint Andy's over there by McDonalds as you leave. Cheeseburgers there are like the old school diner type and man are they awesome.

There is absolutely NOTHING nice to say about this goat track of a golf course. I mean literally this is the laughing stock of courses in Charlotte. If Charlotte golf courses had an illegitimate child, Renaissance would be it. Talk about a joke of a course. I am still steamed after playing this course Saturday. One of our foursome made the tee time without anyone knowing and it was too late to go somewhere else for the tee time we needed. I knew it was going to be bad but no idea it was going to be THAT bad. The rough is laughable...US Open type lenth that you can barely find your ball in. I bet we spent an extra 30 minutes trying to find balls that were a couple feet off the fairway. Fairways are complete shit, greens are long, short, long, short and complete shit. They really need to tear this thing down and return it to a landfill. This course is absolutely WORHTLESS.

So glad I bought that Groupon deal a couple months back, I am really enjoying this course right now. The greens out there are in great shape as well as the rest of the course for that matter. Pace of play wasn't bad, had a few hiccups with me being a two-some and waiting on a 4-some with an open hole in front of them for 3 holes. Ranger took care of it though so no worries. All in all another great day out at the syc.

I want to give this course 4.5 stars but the greens just won't allow me to do it. Everything leading up to the greens are nearly perfect. Plenty of plush grass in the fairways, tee boxes are cut fine, sand was full, etc. I really enjoyed playing out here Saturday. If the greens were in line I would say Regent park would be right up there with Springfield, Olde Sycamore and Stonebridge in terms of overall asthetics. Course is in great shape...greens are just hurting a little. I would play again no problem.

A fair review of Eagle Chase: Took the long drive out to Eagle Chase a couple weekends ago and just now had time to write a review. As you can tell by my score I chopped this course to hell and back and had a horrible time doing it. Me and one other guy decided to take the drive up. Called and reserved a 2-some tee time about a week in advance. Called to confirm the morning of the round before I made the drive...nope..no tee time reserved. They stick us in a spot 30 minutes after my original tee time...ok no big deal. Get out to the course and don't see a soul on the tee boxes, driving range, etc. Hit a few range balls, grab a sammich, a few beers and proceed off to the 1st tee at our schedules tee time. Where the F did the 4-some come from that is teeing off in front of us? Ok...no big deal. Play 1, 2, 3 holes and the 4-some won't let us play through. No ranger in site. Ok...no big deal - have another beer. 4th hole catch up to them and ask what gives..."There's a 5-some in front of us and they are supposed to be letting us play through but they won't." Ok...now I'm starting to get pissed. It took until the 6th hole for the 5-some to finally let the 4-some play through and it took until the 9th hole for us to finally get in front of the 5-some that had 2 female players and a 6-10yr old kid. So a little foresite on the Rangers part could have prevented a 2-some waiting on a 4-some and a 5-some for 8 damn holes. After turning the corner it was smooth sailing. We caught a 3-some on the 7th hole but it was tit for tat, we were never really waiting on a shot on the back 9. I actually like the course and the layout. And yes, the cart paths are worse than the cottage cheese on Rosie Odonells left a$$ cheek but besides that I enjoyed the overall layout and challenge of the course even though it ate my lunch. I was mostly just ticked most of the round so I played like shitt. To be fair with the review I am giving a weighted rating. Course layout - 3 stars (would be higher if not for cart paths) Greens - 3.5 Stars Fairways - 4 Stars Course management - 3 stars Total score 13.5 / 4 scores = 3.375 - Round up to 3.5 stars.

Stonebridge still looking great. Greens were rolling a tad bit slower than I'm used to but still good. I wish people would learn how to at least attempt to use a divot tool on the greens. Pathetic how many unrepaired divots there are on the greens...not the courses fault. Anyway...great play as always.

Head pro...not sure what his name is - real snobby dude. Other than had a great day on the course. Greens look faster than they are so a little deciveing there but rolling very true. 18 had a few bare spots towards the end of the fairway, no biggy. Rough is cut for fair play, fairways are nice. Love the course, very scenic and plush.

I was pretty much amazed at how nice Springfield is looking right now. I played here a couple years ago and wasn't all that impressed. They've completely redone the greens and they are super nice. They are rolling true and firm. I can count on my hand 5 time maybe where I saw a dry spot on the green or fairway, the course is in excellent shape. The only thing I worry about is the fairways are a little thing, not bad just a little thin. Hopefully they hold up to the heat otherwise this course is in trouble for the summer. But right now...you have to play this course. Absolutely beautiful play right now.

Reading the reviews from guys 2 weeks ago I was expecting perfection...or something very close to it. I was surprised to see so many areas with grounds under repair. Sections of the fairways and even greens cut out and removed from the playing area. Fairways with bare spots everywhere and just overall it felt like this course had been rode hard and put away wet. Not at all what I was expecting. Greens are rolling pretty good although the first 4 holes were very hairy for some reason and were slowwwwwww. Some of the holes on this course are beautiful. The layout is challenging so I could see how you could have a few extra strokes on this course. For the 45 minutes it took me to drive up there and the shape of the course right now I think I will stick closer to home. Springfield & Stonebridge I think are in much better shape right now.

Ok so I lied...I can play other courses besides Stonebridge. A buddy of mine invited me out to Fort Mill Golf Club for a round on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we teed off at 12:40 and Sunday at 1:40. This course had me stumped both days. The layout of the course is sort of an old school links style with some rolling terrain. A little water here and there makes it interesting. Fairly wide open course with a few holes requiring precision but nothing too crazy. The biggest thing about this course that had me stumped were the speed of the greens. The greens were in nice enough shape, not too much in the way of dead spots but man they were long and slooooowwwww. It was just shy of putting on shag carpet. I could not for the life of me get the speeds embedded in my head. What looked like a putt that should roll nicely invariably stopped 5 ft short of the cup. I'm used to those greens at Stonebridge so putting on these were a real nightmare for me. I can speak highly of the staff, very nice and outgoing guys. Clubhouse is nice and the course is in pretty good shape this time of year. A wee bit pricey perhaps for the overall condition of the course and considering there are nicer courses that can be played for the same or cheaper. Overall I would go back out and play but hold my breath as I stepped on the 1st tee hoping that green 400yds away has been mowed.

If Stonebridge Golf Course were a lady...well...you get the idea. Unreal how nice this course is playing right now, so early in the season and everything is green, fairways are lush, greens roll true, tee boxes are great, etc. I live roughly 25 minutes from this course in the Ballantyne area and I drive here every weekend to play. I just can't bring myself to play any other course right now because of how nice they have this course running. We played on Mothers day and had a 10:40 tee time. Pace of play was good because not a lot of people were playing that morning. The only real downside I can say about Stonebridge is I have played some longer rounds out here, in the neighborhood of 5 hours. Mostly due to the 2,3 and 4, holes seem to back up traffic a little. It seems like once you get past the par 3 6th over the ju ju things start to speed up quite a bit. I also like a lot how the front nine and back nine just feel different. You never get bored out here. There are some shots that when you hit them it keeps bringing you back for more and more. Stonebridge isn't a super demanding course but will reward you fro straight shots. You don't have to be super long to shoot well here. Pin placements seem to always be fair and the greens...ahhh the greens...best rolling and fairest rolling greens I have played in a long time. The only other greens that roll as good that I've played recently was at Tega Cay. Anyway, if you haven't played this course you have to make the Saturday/Sunday drive down to Mineral Springs and check out this little secret gem. You won't be dissapointed.

From South Charlotte take 485 around to 16 north. Took me about 25-30 minutes to get there but I have a bit of a lead foot. I thought the layout of the course was pretty cool. A lot of challenging shots for a guy like me that can shoot 78 and 98 the very next day. The greens on 4, 8, 11, and 15 (if memory serves) had some really rough patches on them filled with sand. Overall it's worth the play but the greens could use some real work right now.
