Has any taken a lesson at leatherman golf or the Charlotte impact performance center?
Re: Seniors golf   oneputt at 4/10/16 8:14am
I dont know if you have gotten the info you were looking for but I would strongly recommend that you look into Fort Mill golf club. They have a regular Tuesday and Thursday senior event. I play on Thursday and enjoy the golf and the companionship. Format for Thursday is a stroke game, net. They also pay out skins. Tuesday's format changes but is usually some form of a scramble. If you are looking for a game get in touch with me. I am 67, play to a 6.4 index and pretty much play all over.

looking for indoor golf   dyork at 12/21/15 4:06pm
Does anyone know of any indoor golf facilities with simulators in the area? Doesn't have to be anything official, could be a bar with a sim or an all out training facility.

Thanks in advance
Regent Park   Nate at 12/20/15 8:48pm
Regent Park hasn't been officially sold so they are still running as normal. Which yes, means the course is in eh shape.
Regent Park   dongtrgolfer at 11/16/15 4:04pm

Re: Charlotte Golf   dyork at 10/13/15 4:51pm
Hey, I just moved down here myself from Philly a few months ago...

I've played Renaissance Park Golf Course which isn't too far from where you're staying. Its no Glen Mills, but it has some very unique holes and a lot of potential, just that ownership doesn't seem to give a damn about maxing out its potential. This would be a good budget-friendly option.

Further south I've played Tega Cay, in South Carolina. Great course all around, easy front 9, challenging back 9. Course is always in great condition... problem is, its not exactly a quick cab ride away... but worth considering and probably best bang for your buck.

I haven't played the golf club at Ballantyne yet, but hear great things about it. The head pro there has been on the golf ch! annel a couple times. This is pricier, and again, a bit of a distance if you're travelling by Uber, but if you're looking for a luxury experience I would recommend it. Might even join you if I was invited ;-) (being my birthday weekend and all).

There's a little 9 hole course near your hotel on South Blvd... can't say I've heard much about it, or played there... but its 9 holes and owned by the city so, play at your own risk.

Hope this helps. Go Eagles!
Charlotte Golf   dirishoh at 10/13/15 12:20pm
16 Phila. Eagle fans and golfers coming to Charlotte weekend of 10/23. Need recommendation on 2-3 must play courses while staying in Charlotte. Group handicaps range from 12- 25. Probably using Uber to get to and from courses so not too far from hotel on S. Tyron Street in Charlotte. Advice and recommendation greatly appreciated.
Re: Best area for a golf trip?   dongtrgolfer at 10/9/15 10:47am
I would stay south in SC. Course choices are in order of my preference: Edgewater, Springfield, Tega Cay, Fort Mill, and Lancaster.
Best area for a golf trip?   Mohan at 10/7/15 7:56pm
Hey what's up. I'm coming down to Charlotte with a few friends for a three day trip and we're trying to figure out the right area to stay. Looks like we can go north, east, and southwest (into SC). Any recommendations? We're looking for some fairly nice courses - nothing luxurious, we all shoot in the 80s and 90s.

Thanks for the help!
Re: Water resistant golf courses?   tvrepairex at 10/3/15 11:07am
Eagle Chase near Marshville drains really well.Very Rare to have a cartpath only day.
Re: Water resistant golf courses?   oneputt at 10/2/15 8:15am
Fort Mill is a course that drains well. Traps are also draining well.
Water resistant golf courses?   HateSlowPlay at 10/1/15 3:56pm
With all the rain around, I would like to know which courses around here drain relatively well? Just in case the sun peeks out long enough to fool me into playing.
NFL Pool   The B-Man at 9/9/15 10:53pm
As some of you know, one of my other hobbies besides golf has been running an NFL pool web site called The NFL Picks Page. I have been doing it for 20 seasons now believe it or not and the site has over 10,000 players that compete against each other and in their own private pools. If you are an NFL fan, check it out and see how you do picking the games each week:

Golfnow coupons   Leednc at 9/3/15 12:25pm
I received 2 $80 Golfnow coupons at a charity event and would like to sell them. I would use them myself but they require you to use the whole $80 at one time and because of work I mostly play M-F by myself so I'd waste half of it.
I'd like to get $50-60 apiece for them. (Bman, if this isn't allowed on your site I apologize and please remove the post)

Superintendent's Revenge Tournament at The Tradition   The B-Man at 8/25/15 7:41am
There is a unique 2-man tourney at The Tradition on Saturday 8/29 called "Superintendent's Revenge". For this Captain's Choice event, they set up the pins in the toughest spots and put some tees in challenging places. The price ($65, with a $25 discount for members) includes golf, dinner and a shot at all the prizes. Shotgun start at 1pm.

Call or email the course to get signed up.

This should be framed and posted on the first tee at every golf course!
Lessons with a PGA Pro   The B-Man at 8/10/15 7:27pm
I took a lesson with Jay Reid at Birkdale 2 weeks ago and he helped solve a few nagging problems for me -- e.g. occasional shanks, no lob wedge confidence and poor chipping / bunker play -- literally in minutes. I took most of the hour practicing what he told me after a few minutes of video analysis and instruction. I was extremely happy with the results. He's partnered with me now to give anyone referred from my site $20 off a lesson or clinic -- just mention my web site when you make a reservation. Check out his site -- Jay Reid School of Golf -- and give him a shot at fixing your biggest swing problems. He's a PGA life member and taught at Dana Rader for 15 years.
Re: Play golf alone   The B-Man at 8/7/15 3:01pm
You're welcome, beginnergolfguy. I hope you enjoy learning and playing the game.

A few tips on courses -- I think Revolution Park, Charles T Myers, and Charlotte National are among the best courses for beginners. And better yet, if you want to start with an executive course (all par 3's), you can try Pebble Creek in Indian Trail. That's where I learned to play and built my confidence over 15 years ago.

Also, for the rest, I think this is a good topic with some good advice. Playing as a single is something I do quite a bit -- for mostly personal schedule reasons. Either it's last minute and I can't find a partner before I get to the course or I've got only so much time to play and need to play fast. In those cases, it's ve! ry appropriate to tell the pro shop or starter that you'd like to play alone or have a time constraint. You might ask to start on the back nine or another hole where they have a gap. You just have to keep in mind what 5putts said and realize that they may not be able to accommodate you -- since it could mess up pace of play for their other guests. In these situations, you just have to accept what they offer and not take it personally if they decline. Also know that it might change during the round. You may catch up to a 2-some or threesome that is stacked behind several full groups. In that case, it makes sense for you to join that group rather than keep pushing up against them every hole -- because you're not going to play through that many groups. So the biggest advice if you want to play as a single is be flexible.
Thanks to you as well hateslowplay   beginnergolfguy at 8/6/15 9:31pm
I also want to thank you for your time and input. I am certainly going to remember these things. I am sure it will take time to learn the things...but I am excited and all in !
Have a great weekend ! And thanks to you Bman, I enjoy this site !
Re: Play golf alone   HateSlowPlay at 8/6/15 1:31pm
Getting paired up is something you have to get used to. But don't feel self conscious about your game, honestly no-one really cares about anyone else's game as it is hard enough focusing on their own games. But the things people do care about are etiquette and pace of play. Both are huge. Learn the etiquette, don't stand in people's line of sight, don't walk on their line, rake bunkers, etc. Learn what READY GOLF is and play it all times. Be aware when it is your turn to hit and be ready, don't stand there fiddling with your glove and trying to find a yardage while people are waiting for you. Do that before it is your turn while other people are hitting. Also don't get back to the cart, re-arrange your clubs, sort out scores, etc. while parked next to the green, and people are waiting back in t! he fairway. Jump in the cart, putter or driver in hand, and put them away at the next stop. Always be aware or etiquette and pace of play and people will love playing with you.
